Subject Alignment: Environmental service-learning program that introduces National Park stewardship within Golden Gate National Parks. Topics covered include: stewardship, interdependence of living things within an ecosystem, Native American uses of plants, and habitat restoration. |

Brief Description: Imagine your SFUSD after-school group, or community organization, hiking along Presidio trails with a Park Ranger, participating in fun team builders, and actively engaged in National Park stewardship. In a series of four service-oriented programs--first a visit by rangers to your school, followed by two field trips to Golden Gate National Parks---your group will learn about San Francisco's unique habitats and why people today are working hard to conserve, preserve and restore what remains. During your second session, students will apply knowledge of native plants through scavenger hunts, experiential, and nature activities. The third trip involves actual hands-on restoration, planting and/or weeding in Golden Gate National Parks. The final student-generated project will showcase your group's knowledge, empowering them to coordinate a neighborhood clean up, or start a community garden back at your site! We can accommodate a minimum of 8, and a maximum of 20 participants. |
