Brief Description:

MSI connects students of all ages with the marine ecosystems of their neighborhoods around the San Francisco Bay area.  We offer exciting opportunities for students to learn marine science as they touch real, live marine animals from both the San Francisco Bay estuary and the Pacific Ocean!  We teach aboard our ship, at our bay-front location, at the tidepools, on the beach, and in the classroom.

MSI offers lots of unique experiences set into the local marine ecosystems.  Each program is designed around a particular marine ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay and Pacific Ocean.  Students will come in direct contact with the marine life as they hold many different animals native to the ecosystem they are studying.  Take a Discovery Voyage of the SF Bay aboard our research vessel and get hands-on with benthic invertebrates, plankton, hydrology, and catch fish!  Visit our Shoreside program where you have the option of getting hands-on with invertebrates, fish, sharks, plankton, hydrology, and marine mammal artifacts!  Meet us in the field as we explore Tidepools or Sandy Beach/Marsh ecosystems and try to catch animals in their native habitat.  We also have Inland Voyages where we bring animals from all of the ecosystems into your classroom for hands-on education!
