Brief Description:
The program runs daily during the last two weeks of July. We spend time working with various environmental agencies and taking trips to various natural places. We hike in Marin, do restoration work at Lake Merced, visit the waste treatment plant in SF, work at the Glide Memorial rooftop garden, visit community gardens, farms, and more. LEAF is also deeply committed to time for group reflection, trust building and giving each student the chance to be an essential part of the group. The program is based at the Presidio Hill School in SF. A teacher brings a group of 4-6 students from their school whom they think would benefit from the program, and from becoming "environmental leaders".
Throughout the two weeks, students from each school come up with a project that they will work on during the upcoming school year (anything from a school garden, to educating other students in their school, holding a school clean up day, etc). We offer resources to help with these projects throughout the first semester of the school year. The program is free for students, and the teachers receive a stipend of $1000.
