Brief Description:

Edible Edventures is a new project of SaveNature.Org that inspires students how to save wild habitats and wildlife every day with your food choices. The Edible EdVentures educational outreach program uses hands-on demonstrations and interactive lessons to engage students in understanding and applying important environmental science concepts related to agriculture, sustainability, and food production to inspire ecological and health conscious habits. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in making informed decisions and becoming more environmentally aware of their food choices.

Edible EdVentures is a 50-60-minute presentation that contains science-based lessons for 3rd graders and older. Lessons explore the scientific basis of causes of food-related environmental damage and how individuals, families and schools can take action to save wild places and animals with everyday food choices. Hands-on activities and discussions expose the important multiple factors and options related to healthy eating and sustainable living. Students will learn about food chains and food webs, cause-and-effect relationships, ecosystems, resources, and interconnectivity between food and nature.

The presentation addresses state standards for life science, investigation and experimentation, visual and language arts, and social science. Edible EdVentures presentations can be adapted to any age level.

Edible EdVentures offers preliminary materials for teachers prior to the presentation visit. Teachers will receive classroom activity and teaching materials to prepare for the presentation and a set of written instructions for a scientific investigation.
