Brief Description:

SEI’s staff works with K-6 children in an after-school or summer camp setting to teach kids about the environment. We also train camp counselors and after school coordinators to provide program activities. The Planet Energy program operates under an exploratory science and clean energy theme, which includes: hands-on, highly interactive, project-based instruction; age-appropriate experiments and design/build projects; training in the use of energy analysis equipment and energy auditing; and strengthening environmental literacy and values among students. The program can be delivered in a variety of formats, ranging from one-hour segments to full day activities.

The curriculum uses energy as the context for math, science, and language arts instruction. Each week students are engaged in various energy and sustainability-focused activities, including home and building energy auditing techniques, energy conservation techniques, building and experimenting with solar ovens, making paper from junk mail, reusing materials for art projects, designing reusable bags and more!
